Eid al-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is one of the most significant Islamic holidays celebrated by Muslims worldwide. This joyous occasion holds immense cultural and religious importance, commemorating the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God. 

Eid al-Adha traces its origins to the story of Prophet Ibrahim’s profound faith and devotion to God. According to Islamic tradition, Ibrahim received a command from God to sacrifice his beloved son, Ismail (Ishmael). As Ibrahim prepared to carry out the command, God intervened and replaced Ismail with a ram, demonstrating the significance of submission and trust in God’s will. Eid al-Adha serves as a reminder of Ibrahim’s unwavering faith and the ultimate reward for his obedience.

Eid al-Adha is marked by a series of rituals that symbolize various aspects of the Prophet Ibrahim’s story. One of the central customs is the sacrifice of an animal, typically a sheep, goat, cow, or camel. This act represents the willingness to sacrifice something dear for the sake of God and serves as a means of charitable giving, with the meat distributed among family, friends, and the less fortunate.
