valentine's self love
Valentine’s day is usually a time when people express their love for each other. But what about when you don’t have someone to love and self love is the way forward. No worries, DesiCity has got you covered! We’ve put together a list of ways to make Valentine’s day your own, and we promise it will be just as fun (or maybe even more fun) than going out and celebrating with everyone else.
For those of you who are spending valentines day enjoying your own company, that doesn’t mean you can’t treat yourself! Take yourself out for a date for some dinner, have a pamper day to make yourself feel good and fresh, go for a shopping spree and treat yourself.
Date ideas
As much as going out for dinner is nice, sometimes it’s nice to make date nights more personal and romantic. For a change why don’t you lads give your wife/girlfriend a rest and cook dinner for them, want to make Valentines Day Desi? How about a 3-course Indian meal?
Stuck on what to make and how? Don’t worry we’re here to help and have you covered we won’t tell anyone. I’ve picked out my top picks so go check out these amazing quick and easy recipes below and start cooking!
vegetarian 3 course meal
Starters: Chana Chaat
The chana brings added saltiness to the mix, with tomatoes for tanginess that will have your mouth watering before you can even take a bite! With crunchy onions mixed into soft potatoes sits bold spices like cayenne pepper or ground coriander beautifully against rich browned breadcrumbs on top making each ingredient stand out individually while they melt together inside – this dish has it all from start until finish.
Main course: Aloo Gobi
What better way to show your partner some love by making them some aloo gobi, you could even crack a joke with this one by saying ‘you can be the aloo to my gobi’
Aloo Gobi, made from potatoes and cauliflower with the perfect touch of tangy spices. Rich tomatoes are cooked onto rich onions for that final flavour burst you crave!
A popular dish found all over India- aloo gobi means “vegetable potato” in Hindi but it’s more than just vegetables; there is also some sort of delicious sauce or other stuff mixed into this amazingly spicy mixture which makes our taste buds do backflips without wanting us even realize what hit ’em!. Pair this with some roti/naan/rice and you’re ready to eat!
Dessert: Gajar ka Halwa
This is the perfect dessert! The flavour of milk and carrots in this gajar ka halwa is just unbeatable. It has the perfect balance between sweet, salty flavours that will leave your mouth watering for more! I like to have my halwa with a scoop of vanilla ice cream to top it off, go ahead and try it, you won’t be disappointed.
non-vegetarian 3 course meal
Starters: Chicken Tikka Skewers
You can’t beat the smell of fresh skewers sizzling on a hot grill. These chicken tikka bars are sure to satisfy your appetite with their tender, juicy flavour and spice combination!
Main course: Lamb Curry
The exciting and fun flavour of Indian lamb curry is something you can’t miss out on. The spices will make your mouth water for more, while the juicy meat gives off a sense that it’s been seasoned perfectly! Leaving your tastebuds feeling excited and wanting more! Pair this with some roti/naan/rice and you’re sorted!
Dessert: Gulab Jamun
Gulab Jamun is a popular Indian sweet dish that has been enjoyed for centuries and is perfect for valentines day to add a bit of sweetness to the end of your date. The flavour of the dough changes with each bite, making it an experience like no other!
