Deceptive Practices

DesiCity has a strict policy regarding Deceptive Practices which outlines the expected behaviour and standards on DesiCity. This Policy applies to all types of customer and seller behaviour on our platform, including but not limited to images, comments, descriptions, reviews and interactions with DesiCity, other brands and customers. Our Deceptive Practices policy is key part of our broader suite of policies and are regularly evaluated to maintain pace with emerging challenges.

We enforce this policy using a combination of human reviewers and machine learning, and apply them to everyone equally – regardless of the subject or the creator’s background, political viewpoint, position or affiliation.

Our policies aim to make DesiCity a safer community while still giving creators the freedom to share a broad range of experiences and perspectives.

Intentionally misleading customers is prohibited by DesiCity, as outlined in our Buyer Policy and Seller Policy.

There are multiple types of methods to mislead customers, including but not limited to the seller carrying out the below examples:

  • Have a friend or family member purchase an item and subsequently leave a biased, inauthentic, or dishonest positive review.
  • Compensate a customer using free or significantly reduced items, free samples, cash incentives or other compensation, to purchase and leave a biased, inauthentic or dishonest positive review.
  • Open or use additional shops posing as an independent buyer to take deceptive action on the first shop. This could include purchasing an item to leave a review for the first shop, deceptively favoriting the first shop or their listings, or taking any other actions to fictitiously improve the first shop’s reputation. 
 
Transactions between friends and family

Transactions and reviews between friends and family are not considered deceptive as long as they reflect the honest, unbiased opinion of the buyer and meet the following criteria:

  • The transaction must occur on DesiCity.
  • The buyer and seller may not share a material connection (such as a shared bank account, credit card or financial interest in the shop being reviewed).
  • The buyer must not be paid or otherwise compensated for the review, unless this is available to all buyers (such as a discount offered on the next purchase for leaving an honest review).
  • The sole purpose of the transaction may not be to leave a review.
 
What happens if a seller violates this policy

If a seller violates this policy, they risk removal of their shop and products, with a 12 month ban from the platform and an email to inform the seller. 

If this is your first time violating our Community Guidelines, you’ll likely get a warning with no penalty to your shop. If it’s not, we may issue a strike against your channel. If you get 3 strikes within 90 days, your shop will be removed from the platform. 

We may terminate your shop for repeated violations of the Community Guidelines or Terms of Service. We may also terminate your shop after a single case of severe abuse.
